About Us

Let’s Interpret is a community project based at South Riverside Community Development Centre in Cardiff, that came into being in early 2020.

We believe that the language skills and cultural knowledge within Cardiff constitute a valuable local asset that can be used for the benefit of those members of society who face the most significant barriers to economic and social inclusion.

Our aims are three-fold:

  1. To provide the training and support required to enable our members to become competent, professional interpreters. Thereby improving their employability, broadening their career options and enabling them to actively participate in and contribute to their local community.
  2. To work in partnership with local service providers in Cardiff to provide interpreting services and community language support that allows them to engage with all members of society whilst reinvesting in their local community at the same time.
  3. To contribute to equality of access to services and support for migrant communities and seekers of sanctuary in the city of Cardiff.

Our members

We prioritise working with women who face particular barriers to accessing employment or to participating in their local community.
This might be due to having:

  • childcare and/or caring responsibilities,
  • having arrived in the UK as seekers of sanctuary,
  • having qualifications or work experience from other countries, which are not always recognised here in the UK

Our members want to:

  • make use of their linguistic skills to help others and themselves
  • participate in and contribute to their local communities
  • improve their employability and increase career options
  • find work that can fit around their existing responsibilities
  • increase their household income
